Welcome to 2020 and the fourth episode in a series of podcasts focused on work health and safety in the seafood industry. For more information on the initiative: Seafood Industry Safety Initiative.
Michael started working on Prawn trawlers in November 1972 out of Darwin and became a cadet Skipper the following year with Markwell Fisheries He skippered his first vessel 3 years later. After 14 years prawn fishing in Northern Australia moved into a fleet management position. Michael has been involved in vessel refit for many years and is now the General Manager of Australia Bay Seafoods in Darwin.

Welcome to the third episode first series of podcasts focused on work health and safety in the seafood industry. This series of podcasts focus on the Seafood Industry Safety Initiative
Our third speaker in this series is Heid Mumme.
In the early 2000’s Heide was employed at Paspaley Pearls as an R&D officer. In 2012 Heide was involved in establishing an integrated QHSE System for Paspaley Pearls with the focus on development of the fleets SMS. The SMS involved formalising many processes around all aspects of the pearling business from hatchery production, growout and fishing (diving for wild oysters) and seaplane operations.
Since mid-2019, Heide has been a part time facilitator and researcher on the National Seafood Industry Leadership Program (NSILP) and commenced MI-Fish Consulting. Heide is also Vice President and Tasmanian Director of WISA (Women in Seafood Australasia).

Our second speaker in this series is Michael Drake.
Prior to joining AMSA, Michael held senior leadership positions within NSW Government – most recently at Roads and Maritime Services and Transport for New South Wales. Michael spent 15 years in the Royal Australian Navy where he sailed primarily on Submarines.
Michael joined AMSA in 2018 as the National Operations Manager- Regions. In this role he is responsible for the effective delivery and implementation of AMSA ship and vessel programs across the four AMSA regions.

John is the chair of the Initiative and comes from a long history associated with the seafood industry. John has held roles as Executive Officer of Professional Fisherman’s Associations, CEO of the Western Rock Lobster Council and CEO of the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC).John is now involved in private consulting.
